Lighting and Viewing Conditions

Consistent viewing and lighting conditions are essential to achieving reliable performance in color comparisons. The viewing area should be well lit. The specific type of lighting, distance from the light source and positioning of the gemstone should remain as constant as possible. General ceiling lighting may be utilized but it is recommended to have a station where a table light can be positioned for optimum observation. Lighting that is too strongly diffused or too focused should be avoided. It is recommended to have a neutral viewing station with the ColorCodex™ lamp or a table light with a minimal ultra-violet component (UV). As strongly colored walls, desks or clothing may influence the observed color of a gemstone. The ColorCodex™ lamp will be launched soon!
